5 Super Simple Lifestyle Changes You Can Make Today to Accelerate Your Hair Growth
We’ve seen a lot of trends come and go, but one thing that never goes out of style is long and healthy hair. There’s just something about lustrous, flowing locks that has that ‘WOW’ factor. Long hair may be pretty to look at, but it isn’t always easy to achieve. Some people are naturally blessed with hair that grows like a weed, but for others (myself included!) optimizing your hair for growth can seem like a full-time job. We’re here to cut the confusion and provide you with tips that can easily be integrated into your lifestyle and will actually make a difference…
SWAP #1: Invest in a wooden brush
We’ve said it a million times and we’ll say it again: wooden brushes are FAR better for your hair than plastic ones, and there are a ton of reasons why! First off, wooden bristles help to naturally condition your hair by distributing your hair’s natural oils down the hair shaft.
Wooden brushes are gentle and wide, so they are less likely to cause breakage. These brushes are also often built in a way that allows them to be a great tool for scalp massages. If you can find one with nodules at the end of the bristles, even better! This will help increase circulation to the scalp and promote hair growth. Just please remember to brush from the bottom of your hair to the top to remove any tangles.
Here’s a few wooden brushes we like:
SWAP #2: Use a t-shirt for drying
This hair-healthy trend has been circulating the internet for a while and we’re here to confirm it certainly does make it a difference – especially for curly hair. The t-shirt trick is a way to keep hair protected from over-drying and breakage that you experience with standard terry cloth towels.
After showering, wrap the t-shirt around your head/hair as you usually would a towel. A t-shirt that is 100% cotton works best. You will have to leave the t-shirt in for a bit longer (especially if your hair is thick), because it is less absorbent than a regular towel. 15-20 minutes usually does the trick.
SWAP #3: Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Silk pillowcases are all the rage now when it comes to transforming your skin and hair for the better. In short, silk pillowcases have slip and slip allows your strands to flow freely throughout the night without friction. Silk also retains moisture.
Keeping hair naturally moisturized as much as possible will help keep it healthy and on-track with your long hair goals. And you don’t have to spend a fortune when it comes to buying a silk pillowcase. We’ve listed a few budget friendly options below.
SWAP #4: Show your scalp some love
This is one of our top hair tips of all time and that’s because we’ve seen it work time and time again. Scalp massages are the easiest and most affordable way to accelerate your hair growth.
You can preform a scalp massage on yourself as little as once a week and still reap the benefits. Scalp massages work wonders by encouraging blood flow to the scalp, which encourages hair growth. Paired with an all-natural oil or treatment, like The Innate Life Scalp Treatment, this ritual is even more beneficial because of all the nutrients you’ll be delivering to the scalp.
There are tons of resources online that show you how to preform a gentle and effective scalp massage on yourself. Find some of our favourites below.
SWAP #5: Eat hair-healthy foods
There is some truth in the old saying ‘you are what you eat’, especially when it comes to healthy skin and hair. Many of us are guilty of reaching for a supplement every time we lack certain nutrients, but simple swaps in our diet are often enough to get our health back on track.
Important vitamins when it comes to hair health (and growth) include: essential fatty acids, iron, and biotin. You can up your essential fatty acids with simple swaps such as using almond butter instead of peanut butter or dark leafy greens instead of romaine or iceberg lettuce.
Make the nutrient iron a staple in your diet by swapping your usual breakfast bagel with eggs (eggs are also an excellent source of biotin!) or adding spinach into your mid-day smoothie.
Peruse the Internet for a number of healthy swaps you can make everyday and your hair will thank you. To put it simply: whole, unprocessed foods and lots of fruit and veggies will never do the body wrong.
If you find yourself struggling with hair growth or you just want to improve the health of your hair then these tips are a great place to start. You can always start with just a couple swaps and incorporate more later on. It’s important to remember that even small changes can lead to big results!
